Bringing an idea to life in three dimension is a skillset I began to hone early in life. As a high school student I took classes like 2D & 3D art, drafting, and industrial design. I studied industrial & systems engineering as well which also assisted in its own unique way from a process standpoint.
I’m Domonique, a tenacious Miami native, Atlanta based photographer with a knack for adventure and always pushing myself to try new things.
It’s hard to remember the first time I picked up a camera, but photography has been apart of my life since childhood. I’d like to say photography was passed down to me from my grandmother. She always had a camera around snapping photos of my every moment, and telling stories of the photos her dad would take of her as a child with his Brownie camera.
As much as I was annoyed with being photographed as a child, having those memories helped me to understand the power of photography. I dabbled in photography while attending Design & Architecture Sr. High (Located in the Design District of Miami), but didn’t pick up a camera seriously until 2010.
Being mostly self-taught my initial photography subjects were friends and family, but my interests grew over the years. As I picked up and put down the camera over the years, my avid travels became the forefront of my interest in the art form over and over again.
Fast forward to 2019, in preparation for a trip to Morocco, I made the decision to push myself to not put the camera down again. In an interest to dive deeper into photography this year I decided to get back to the basics by purchasing my first film camera, a Yashica MAT 124 G.
At the time, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but when I looked through the waist level viewfinder for the first time I knew this would be a notable experience of discovery. When I’m not behind my viewfinder you can find me spending time with my husband Alex doing something outdoors like traveling, camping, or snowboarding. In the winter months I can be found tinkering with woodworking projects in my garage.
